Highlight Story on One Barefoot Doctor

I want to introduce you to my friend, Ni Chey, a Barefoot Doctor, from Myanmar.

Ni Chey is married and has one child. He became a Christian in 2016. He is the only believer in his family. His wife, parents, in-laws, and cousins are all non believers. Ni Chey stands alone in his family and his village as a beacon of light pointing others to Christ. I can only imagine his loneliness and the intense scrutiny as he lives out his faith.

He is a very vibrant and social person. The other students are always poking fun at him because they like him a lot and he is always reacts with a big smile. He loves to sing and worship. He is 40 years old, but acts like a 20 year old when it comes to worship, especially action songs.

He lives in the Rakhine State of Myanmar (Burma) on the Bangladesh boarder where there is much unrest and fighting. He attended the Barefoot Doctor program 2 years ago but was called home in an emergency when his brother was attacked and killed with a machete. He returned for school last year and again this year.

Last summer the same people who attacked his brother came to him. They took his Barefoot Doctor medication away and reported him to the police, and he was arrested. He was released later that day and his medication was returned to him after he showed his Barefoot Doctor credentials. No doubt that God showed him favor.

Ni Chey has a heart for the lost, a real passion. Pray for peace in the Rakhine state. Pray for safety as he serves the Lord in very difficult situation. Pray for favor as he interacts with the authorities and with the lost. May all who come in contact with Ni Chey see Jesus in him.

Thank you for your prayers,
Dr. Bruce Gross
