Last Post - First Week Medical Training 2019

Here are a few interesting items sent in by Jung Dangshing.

Mai Lal Em Par, a Barefoot Doctor, presenting how she treated a patient with breakdown of a leg wound, addressing potential infection and providing wound care with topical antibiotic ointments.

The Barefoot Doctors engage in daily case presentations where they present cases to the class and receive feedback as to whether the Barefoot Doctor treated the problem correctly, or if they could have changed management to better help the patient. The medical instructors provide advise based on each case, and the class asks additional questions.

Em Par is from Mai Pun, Shan State, Myanmar. This is her second year training at the Barefoot Doctors School run by Frontier Labourers for Christ.

Dr. Jove Graham spent the morning teaching the students about malaria. Apart from discussing its mosquito borne transmission and different abatement strategies, he also covered malaria's symptoms and treatment. Resistance to traditional therapies is quite high in Myanmar, so responsible use of anti-marlarials, testing, referral criteria and contraindications to medication use were discussed.

Dr.Graham is an emergency medicine physician who works at Clovis Community Hospital in California and has been involved with the Barefoot Doctors program since his final year in residency.

Here is Lynda Audia teaching students Mental Health, how to help people with mood disorder (depression, bipolar), stress, anxiety disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), psychotic disorder, suicidality and homicidality to provide counseling and referral with kindness and understanding.

This is Dr. Susan Parker demonstrating ankle pulse to assess peripheral circulation

During free time, some students enjoy a couple of card tricks from Dr. Bruce Gross.
