Worship on First Sunday of Barefoot Doctors School

We were happy to come together for worship today at the Barefoot Doctors School.   The students had prepared the entire service with the exception that Pastor Jon Ulm did the preaching.

Once again we found out that our students can really sing! This has been true year after year.  They led the singing and performed a special number.  The harmony was beautiful.

Pastor Jon's message was appropriate to the start of a new class of students. It came from John 13 where we are told about Jesus washing his disciples' feet.  He taught them, "I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you."  These young people have accepted God's call to serve other people in the love of Christ.  They have said they will not discriminate but serve whenever and however the Lord calls them to.
The Apostle Paul wrote in Galatians 5:13You, my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature; rather, serve one another in love Since Jesus had picked up a basin and towel to wash his disciples' feet, we called this Basin Theology.

Jon finished with a true story about a nurse in Southeast Asia:

A wealthy American traveler tells the story of how he was a visiting a hospital in Southeast Asia. He entered a hospital room just as a young missionary nurse was cleaning the sores of a sick, dirty, elderly man who had been lying in a gutter. The wealthy man said to the nurse, “I wouldn’t do that for a million dollars.” She answered quietly and firmly, “Neither would I.”

The man was obviously shocked by such a reply.  His comment about her service had revealed that he considered money the best motivation for anything we do in life, but he found out there are higher motivations in life than money.

The nurse was not taking care of people for the money she would receive.  She was doing it, just like Jesus, because of God’s love and because of the needs of the people around her.

Please continue to pray for our students as they begin the week of Orientation and Bible Training tomorrow morning.  We are happy to have Jon Ulm, Simon Percy, and Dave Barr teaching this week.
