The students were anxious to get started with their first day of Bible classes and orientation to the Barefoot Doctors School. Here they are showing off their name tags the night before as we told them what to expect Monday morning. Then Jung introduced our three wonderful translators, Siripong, Ahtang, and Timothy.
Monday morning we spent our time having the students fill out a thorough Intake Questionnaire that gives us many details about their life, their family, and their village/city. It took them almost two hours to complete them, but during this time we also took their individual pictures and put them in the database that will record their answers once they have been translated.
After lunch Simon Percy taught their first Bible class with Ahtang translating. He taught them why the Word of God is so important to us and how we must be absolutely faithful to never say more or less than God revealed in His Word.
The students also chose their own leaders at the school. Pung Ram Sar was chosen Class President, Nin Mang was chosen leader of the women, and Aung Kyaw Oo was chosen leader of the men. The three of them will guide the rest of the student body in their responsibilities and duties while on the KLC campus.
One of the most fun activities is placing a stick pin on the Map of Burma for each student and where they live. It is always interesting to see the way our students are spread across different regions, states, and districts. We also realized today they this student body represents 9 different tribes.
Jon and Simon even got in on the act and showed the students where they come from, thousands of miles away in England and the USA. We discussed how very different we all are and yet God has made us one in Jesus Christ. God has chosen for each of us to live and serve wherever we find ourselves, but we all have the same mission and we have all been placed in the same family. We are in this together, and we will do whatever is required to help every Barefoot Doctor student succeed and then serve others in the love of Christ.
