Dr. Bruce Gross writes:
Today my heart leapt with joy.
This is Tin Hnin Nwe. She lives in a small village 2 hours by car away from any city. Her village is mostly non-believers. There are only 6 families that are Christian.
Today, she gave a case presentation about a patient that she saw this past year. The patient had a large painful swelling on the buttocks. I confirmed this by the picture that she had taken.
She appropriately diagnosed it as an abscess and lanced it with a sterilized pocket knife. Not only did she lance it, but she made a wide incision, which is required if one is going to obtain adequate drainage of the puss in the abscess.
I was very impressed. Now, this is a 25 year old girl from a remote village in Myanmar, with no formal medical training, except attending the Barefoot Doctor program last year.
Then I asked her, “Did you make this incision yourself”? “Yes”. Then I asked, “Where did you learn to preform this procedure”? She pointed at me and said’ “You taught us to do it last year”.
I couldn’t have been prouder.
Last year she was pushed out of the nest and she not only flew, she soared with eagles. God is so good.
